Its 23 miles of porticoes are considered a world record and are also the main characteristic of Bologna together with its Middle Age Towers: Asinelli Tower and Garisenda Tower.
The former market place Piazza Maggiore is the city focal center and its surrounded by the impressive Basilica of San Petronio, the Cathedral of San Pietro and the famous “Palazzi: Palazzo del Podestà, Palazzo dei Notai e Palazzo dei Banchi.
Just behind San Petronio there is another important church, San Domenico, which hosts precious paintings and sculptures.
Close to Piazza Maggiore there is Piazza del Nettuno with the well known Fountain of Neptune and not far away the famous Santo Stefano Complex, full of religious and historic references and the venue of concerts and events in the summertime.
